   Gifted & Talented Program

GT Program Philosophy
The Port Neches-Groves Independent School District Gifted and Talented Program identifies and serves students in kindergarten through grade twelve. Each component of the Program is an integral part of the District’s fundamental commitment to meet the individual learning needs of all its students. It is the District’s goal to provide an array of learning opportunities that meet the unique needs of the intellectually gifted students and that instructional activities are structured to guide students’ growth as learners and producers, to aid in accurate self assessment, and to stimulate the development of higher level thought processes.

Port Neches-Groves ISD teachers and staff members who work with gifted students receive at least 30 hours of GT training, plus the required 6 hour annual update. The curriculum for gifted students is adapted and differentiated in the following ways:

Student Interest—offering some choice in learning experiences
Pace—moving fast enough to keep them motivated and challenged
Breadth—going wider in scope/enriching
Depth—digging deeper into topics
Complexity—tying knowledge with other ideas
Creativity—playing around with concepts—innovating

Eligibility Criteria
District students at all grade levels are identified in compliance with Texas Education Agency guidelines. Quantitative and qualitative assessment tools are used for determining eligibility and placement.
